Who are we voting for?

Published by ccramer11 at 1:48 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Obama left his church because a Reverend made some outrageous statement. Figuring it would be bad for his political career to be associated with this man, his political team probably advised him to leave. So, let me get this straight. Obama has to leave his church to avoid the risk of tarnishing his image? I know he’s not abandoning religion by any means, as there is a separation of church and state here, but why should association ruin someone? McCain has rejected endorsements from religious figures as well.  There are over 300 million Americans. Of that, according to Wikipedia, about 70% register to vote.  Now I will be damned if of that 210 million people, not a single one has ever made a racist remark or said something that would be considered “politcally incorrect.” Assuming everyone is open with their political views (which they aren’t) but that would mean that the politicians would have to reject the endorsements of all of their supporters. The everyday common citizen is of course the most common type of person in American so let’s disregard them. What about all the celebrities? Oprah backed Obama, which probably helped him so he could never think of rejecting her endorsement (I don’t think anyone would EVER even think of rejecting Oprah endorsing them or their product =P). Hillary Clinton however got a backing from Jenna Jameson, a porn star, and didn’t reject that.  Also receiving the support of Jerry Springer, she accepted that graciously. They don’t necessarily represent the perfect American citizen, nonetheless the type of person that you would want your President associated with.  Lucky McCain got Rocky’s endorsement. I don’t know how that would affect a voter either way. With the exception of an Oprah endorsement, I don’t think any celebrity really could convince people one way or the other who to vote for. Maybe talk show hosts have the greatest influence, throwing in more jokes about one candidate or slightly slandering them everyday. There’s a problem if people are voting for Obama if Oprah tells them to, which wouldn’t surprise me because Ms. Winfrey can make a bestseller with one hour.  But you are not voting for the endorser. You are voting for the endorsee. So what if they’re associated with someone that has not politically correct views? That would make them a normal citizen. Which is what everyone keeps talking about wanting, not an elitist, but a normal citizen, just like them. And that’s why I think it is absolutely ridiculous that Americans want a “perfect” leader.
